Everything You Need to Know About the Twin Flame Journey
It’s one thing to be able to recognize your Twin Flame, it’s another to take a higher perspective and understand the dynamic energy a Twin Flame reunion can bring about.
If you have just met your Twin, or you are living through a cycle of the Twin Flame journey, there are a few energetics to be aware of.
The first thing to be said about the Twin Flame journey is that it is as unique as each Twin. You can’t possibly expect or be prepared for the true energetics of the reunion, though I believe it is helpful to be mentally prepared. I have found that within my own spiritual journey, having context and validation is a relief in and of itself.
That being said, take what resonates, leave what doesn’t. It is not up to me to predict what type of dynamic you and your Twin have agreed to take on in this lifetime in a simple article. However, I can speak from my own experience and the experiences of my clients to take a broad sweep at what common threads may show up in a Twin Flame journey. Twin Flame relationships are specifically catered to your own soul agreements with each other and it will look different for every dynamic. It is up to you to decide how this information fits or doesn’t fit within the energetics of your own Twin Flame container.
Now let’s get to it.
To put it lightly...it’s often chaotic. The Twin Flame relationship’s main intention is to teach you where your Work is and catalyze the growth necessary for your next soul’s evolution. Rapid growth and soul expansion happens through sudden and powerful experiences. The Twin Flame relationship has a tendency to activate our emotional, spiritual, and mental bodies to levels they have never seen before. The spectrum gets expanded - we experience higher highs and lower lows than at any other time in our lives. “Stability” is not typically a word associated with Twin Flame relationships.
It’s most often non-linear. Sometimes because of the chaotic and tumultuous nature of the Twin Flame journey, the timeline isn’t always seamless. It is quite often the case that Twins (re)connect, deepen the bond, pull away, and disconnect cyclically. Sometimes the dynamics remain the same, other times they alchemize and become a new relationship. But each time the reunion happens, it looks a little bit different.
There is a possibility to transcend the tumultuous relationship and move into a higher vibrational state. Young Twins seem to be more ungrounded and spontaneous than Twins who have incarnated together many more times. Older Twins, who have transcended through many lifetimes and earthly lessons together, usually settle into a dynamic that works better for both. For example, young Twins may continuously come back together to try to have an intimate relationship, but they find that the mirroring they offer for each other is too intense or expectations too great. Older Twins have the awareness of their mirroring and can maturely create a relationship that suits them better, such as something platonic or having an intimate relationship with strong boundaries. In some soul agreements, Twins are meant to transcend their old patterns and rise up out of the chaotic and lower vibrational energy systems. Other agreements are purely based on triggering and growth.
It will trigger you like nothing else you’ve ever encountered. Because Twin Flames are so innately and intimately bound to each other on a soul level and their frequencies so close to each other, the mirror of your Twin will show you everything in your behavior patterning, traumatic wounding, and acts of self-sabotage that are not in your highest and best. Intimate relationships and soul agreements in general always have growth associated with them, but the Twin Flame relationship is so deeply triggering because it will bring out everything you need to look at in order to excavate it and move into a higher vibration. Whether or not you and your Twin are currently in union, this dynamic will never let you run from the Work that needs to be done. Sometimes the separation phase of the cycle brings you right to where you need to be in order to fulfill your soul agreements elsewhere.
The time of separation is just as important as time together. The soul lessons of learning to let go and become whole on your own are the gifts that Twins offer each other when in separation. When we reunite with our Twin in this lifetime, it can feel exhilarating to finally feel fully seen, heard, understood, and validated. When the connection moves into its cycles of separation, it can be exceptionally jarring to “lose” this. I have found that my personal Twin Flame journey had more growth after our separation than during, because it was easy to get lost in the magic of it all. Once the separation happened, I was forced to look at all my shattered illusions of self and what love really meant. If you are currently in separation with your Twin, see it as the blessing that it is and know that you are exactly where you need to be.
It catalyzes rapid growth. Each time Twins reunite, the soul work gets magnified again. There is truly no other soulmate relationship that catalyzes massive growth like the Twin Flame relationship does. Other soulmate relationships are known for more gentle learning curves that evolve over time. Twin Flame relationships are like taking an accelerated course over a semester long course. It packs a punch when it comes to the soul work and it can feel grueling and relentless at times. But the amount of growth the soul goes through each time it cycles through a Twin Flame reunion is a massive uplevel.
They always meet in divine timing. You cannot manifest their appearance or return, no matter what types of crystals you use, what rituals you conduct, how many prayers you send, or oracle cards say they are on their way. Due to the nature of the intense soul expansion and growth Twin Flame relationships catalyze, you and your Twin will manifest each other only when you have passed through the other soul lessons necessary to be able to meet in the same place. If you were to manifest your Twin too quickly, your soul would not be ready for the growth and it would not accomplish the same powerful lessons that are meant to arrive with the appearance of your Twin Flame.
You are mirrors to each other, the light and the dark. They will show you the spectrum you are capable of in each. It is common to feel that you never knew how much you could love unconditionally, nor how dark your experience could truly get until you have had a Twin Flame relationship. It is not all passion and fun and play. We only come to fully understand ourselves by understanding the fullest spectrum of our emotional capacity. How we navigate our own emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental experiences through a Twin Flame journey is the avenue in which we grow. Your Twin will mirror the parts of you you never wanted to look at, as it will show you also how worthy and loveable you are. Remember to not take it personally, because you are also doing the same for them.
It might not last. I think a lot of times when we connect with our Twin Flame, there is an idealistic version of that relationship that lives in our minds with the stamp “Forever” on it. I have found that, in my experience and opinion, the Twin Flame relationship doesn’t have the longevity of other soulmate relationships because of its intensity and commonness to burn out. Intimate Twin Flame relationships are often emotionally draining because of all the soul work that gets done within its container. Many soul agreements use the Twin Flame relationship to catalyze the soul growth that needs to happen in order to fulfill either their karmic or dharmic agreements, and when that has been completed, the Twin Flame relationship either transcends into a different dynamic or stays in separation in order to allow for other soulmate partnerships to come in.
It doesn’t have to be romantic. I have heard of instances where Twin Flames agree to incarnate as family members, friends, business partners, teachers/mentors, or perfect strangers. We can have Twin Flame agreements that are not intimate in nature but are familiar nonetheless. Your Twin Flame could be a stranger in which you got into a significant car accident with that changed both of your lives, or it could be a mentor or spiritual teacher that helps you awaken. Twin Flames travel throughout lifetimes together and don’t always choose intimate relationships together, especially if one or both Twins have other soulmate agreements to carry out.
They help us carry out our karma and dharma. The intensity of the Twin Flame bond has the power to create or resolve karma from past lifetimes and to also put both parties on their individual paths to carrying out their dharma, or spiritual life purpose. Twin Flames often agree to work through karma together because at the basis of their relationship is Unconditional Love. From the place of Unconditional Love, karma can move more easily than with any other bond of a lesser potency. I feel strongly that Twin Flames arrive in each others’ lives to (sometimes forcefully) point each other to their dharmic agreements and soul purposes.
You are telepathic with each other. Because Twin Flames share the same energy signature, their souls are very connected in the astral realms at all times. Twins, both in separation and in union, often have conversations in the 5D or astral realms and in dreams. When Twins are not in communication in the physical world, they are almost always still connecting on the higher frequency planes. When one Twin is thinking very hard about the other, the other Twin will receive a telepathic “notice”. Dreams are an important way for Twins in separation to communicate with each other and often do so that the higher selves of both parties can express themselves clearly outside of the physical.
There is nothing you can do to sever the bond. It is eternal and greater than yourself. Sometimes we feel so burned by our Twin Flame that we wish we had the power to cut our cords and move on forever, but the reality of this connection is that it is so deeply intertwined with the energy of your soul that to sever this bond would be to sever a piece of yourself from Source. The best piece of advice I can offer if you find yourself feeling this way is to learn how to hold space for your Twin without attachment or expectation. The more Unconditional Love you can send towards your Twin will only cycle back into yourself eventually. Practice forgiveness, try your best not to take it personally, and understand that everything had to happen in the way it did for the highest and best for all.
It is a shared experience. It’s not one-sided, even if one party tends to gaslight the other or make them question reality. Both Twins feel the depth of connection, though oftentimes one or both parties are frightened by the potency of it. Some Twins tend to try to deny their feelings by either pulling away, getting defensive, or reverting into old patterning. Just know it is important to hold space for them as this is part of their Work and again, has nothing to do with you. They are clearing what they need to, even if it feels frustrating that they have a hard time acknowledging the potency of the connection.
At the end of the day, you can recognize a Twin Flame relationship as one of the most important relationships you will ever have, but it will not be nearly as important as the relationship you have with yourself. We have choices in each moment of our Twin Flame journey to transcend the duality and heaviness of the world into Unconditional Love, or to remain stuck in the mud with our own karmic work. Twin Flame relationships have the sole purpose of catalyzing the growth necessary for your own soul’s evolution and it is up to you to give your experience meaning.
